Strategy or indicator: pick your template

The message is a short JSON payload pasted into the TradingView alert. Which one you need depends on what your script is.

Pine Script strategy

One alert per ticker. TradingView fills in the order the strategy just generated, so entries, exits and reversals all come through the same alert.

The sentiment field tells TradersPost what the position should be after the order: long, short or flat.

Indicator

One alert per condition. An indicator has no orders of its own, so each signal you want to trade gets its own alert and message.

Create another alert with "action": "sell", or "exit", for the other side.

TradingView: 3 things to know

  • Limits Alerts are not instant

    TradingView webhooks can arrive from 2 or 3 seconds to a minute or more late, and TradingView considers 25 to 45 seconds normal. Build the strategy on a timeframe longer than the delay. TradersPost is not designed for sub-minute strategies.

  • Orders Some scripts repaint

    A script can change a signal during the live bar, or use data a past bar did not have, so a trade on the chart may never produce a live alert. Read the repainting notes before you send a script to a broker, and run the alert on a paper broker first.

  • Sizing A strategy can send its own quantity

    The strategy message can carry the quantity of the order the script generated, as in the template above.
